Deseret News
The Deseret News Publishing Company (Deseret News) was first published on June 15, 1850. The first edition carried the motto "Truth and Liberty" in recognition of the multiple challenges facing a frontier newspaper in those days. The first editor wrote: "We hold ourselves responsible to the highest Court of truth for our intentions, and the highest Court of equity for our execution."

In keeping with that pledge, for more than 150 years, the Deseret News has been a credible source of local, national and international news for thousands of readers. Its pages are considered by academics to be one of the most reliable and important sources of information about Utah history.

The newspaper and its staff have been honored many times by professional organizations. Its honors and awards include a Pulitzer Prize for "local reporting under deadline."

This long tradition of timely, accurate and fair reporting continues in the internet age. The Deseret Morning News web site is one of the most active newspaper web sites in America.

In 1997, the Deseret News opened a new headquarters building in downtown Salt Lake City, a building with striking architecture designed to reflect the appearance of the printed newspaper, featuring "columns" and a "masthead." The building's state-of-the art construction facilitates ease of communication and technological adaptability. Whatever changes may come to news and information transmittal in the Twenty-first Century, the Deseret News is ready to respond.
