Beneficial Financial Group was established in 1905 in direct response to Heber J. Grant's recognition of a community's responsibility to protect its widows and orphans. Beneficial's purpose today continues to focus on helping individuals and families financially realize their hopes and dreams and render assistance when it is needed most.

At the time of Beneficial's founding the Company fulfilled a need that was not being met in the Intermountain West. Although it began as a local company serving local needs, it expanded over time until it penetrated a significant number of states in the United States. Since that time, a significant number of large insurance companies have expanded into the Intermountain West and as a result have contributed to a broader and more competitive product offering in the marketplace.

On June 16, 2009, following an extensive and careful review, Beneficial and its parent company, Deseret Management Corporation (DMC), made a strategic decision to discontinue issuing new life insurance policies and annuities and no longer accept applications for these products after August 31, 2009.

Despite Beneficial's ability to deliver strong operating results, Beneficial and DMC concluded that there were other providers who could more efficiently meet the future needs of the current marketplace and that current Beneficial policyholders would be better served in the future if Beneficial were to discontinue accepting new business.

The decision to discontinue new business will not negatively impact Beneficial policies. Beneficial and DMC will continue to meet all contractual commitments under existing insurance and annuity contracts and provide the same high quality service that customers have come to expect.

For over a century, Beneficial has made protecting families through economic hardships a top priority. That commitment has not changed. Beneficial will remain financially strong and will continue to meet all its obligations to policyholders. If you are a Beneficial Policyholder, you can expect the same service and commitment that you have come to expect in the past. Beneficial's mission today remains the same as it did in the beginning - to protect the individuals and families who have placed their trust in Beneficial and render assistance when it is needed most.
